New Napa Valley Wine Train Private Reserve Dinner Series

Touring Napa Valley’s many wineries is a wonderful experience, but what if the winery actually toured you around? That’s the idea behind the new Napa Valley Wine Train Private Reserve Dinner Series, where each adventure is hosted by a prominent winemaker and includes a multi-course, wine paired dinner from Wine Train chef Donald Young.

It’s the ultimate luxury, as you board the private, 36-seat, self-motored Pullman railcar that’s been furbished in retro-luxury style, complete with gleaming wood, mocha leather, stained glass and brass. More exclusive than the regular tourist train multi-car convoy, this is your own rolling, semi-private party cozying up with legendary vintners like Jean Charles Boisset, Gina Gallo and Trevor Durling as they personally pour their own wines and share stories.

Five course meals are equally opulent, customized for each trip but guaranteeing luxury. Previous voyages have offered savories like porcini dusted filet of beef, grilled duck sausage, and braised short ribs.

This is a lovely way to get an overview of the Napa Valley highway wine corridor, too, viewing the scenery from your train window. Take note of the sights, and make a list of the wineries you’d like to visit after the train trip.

1275 McKinstry Street, Napa. Reservations suggested at least 2 weeks in advance. 800-427-4124, winetrain.com.
