Freemark Abbey is a classic location that celebrates their passion for wine through classical meets modern decor. Freemark Abbey is a softly lit and low key environment for tasters of all ages (past 21 of course) to enjoy themselves.
Freemark Abbey was established back in 1886 and was the very first winery to be established by a woman in Napa Valley. This winery has had a rich history of winemakers since it has been passed from owner to owner. Each owner was able to add on their own personal flair to the location, which led to what we now know as Freemark Abbey. In 1898, the first female winery owner Josephine Tychson sold the winery to her good friend Antonio Forni. Upon gaining the property, Antonio then took the liberty of renaming the winery Lombarda Cellars, which was named after his birthplace in Italy.

One year after purchasing what Josephine had already built, Forni created a new winery that is still standing today. This one was fastened out of stones found in Glass Mountain nearby. In 1939, Freemark Abbey went through another ownership change, which ended with what we know of today as Freemark Abbey. The name came from the three businessmen who purchased the winery, who then combined their three names to create Freemark Abbey. Their names were Marquand Foster (Mark), Albert “Abbey” Ahern (Abbey), and Charles Freeman (Free). It was through their business intelligence that they opened up the first sampling room in 1949. Freemark Abbey has gone through a few more change of owners since then, creating the great success that we know today. You could say that Freemark Abbey is a truly collaborative work of art, gaining pieces of each owner throughout the ages.
This lovely winery offers rich reds, tasteful whites, and a selection of either with voluptuous depth to keep your palate busy the whole trip. Whether a fruity Merlot is what you are looking forward to or a more refined Cabernet Sauvignon, there will be something to offer you to satisfy the senses. This vineyard is located in St. Helena, CA. Freemark Abbey is always evolving to showcase the most current wines available to the public.
